ENTRECARD TOOLBAR

Your Ad Here
Good news for those that use ENTRECARD. They have released the Entrecard Toolbar. I have installed it and it is very easy to use and very usefull for all those that use Entrecard. Here are some features :

  • The toolbar only works with Firefox 2 or 3. This will not work with other web browsers.
  • You must have an Entrecard account, the toolbar provides no functionality otherwise.
  • The toolbar should be compatible with Firefox on all operating systems, Windows, Mac and Linux
  • Under NO circumstances should you download the toolbar from any other source than Entrecard itself. Using modifications by third parties may result in the theft of your account information.
  • The Entrecard toolbar does not keep track of any browsing habits or information other than that directly relevant to your Entrecard operations. If there is no widget on a page, the toolbar will pay no attention to it.
The latest version of the toolbar is currently 0.7. New versions of the toolbar should be downloaded to your browser automatically when it restarts.
Now, being that this is a toolbar, it will install directly to your browser. It packs the entire Entrecard.com site (I’m still amazed), and it also enhances your ability to do a lot of Entrecard related things. Let’s jump right into it.
You can DOWNLOAD the ENTRECARD TOOLBAR HERE and MOZILLA FIREFOX 3 HERE or by clicking the images below :

Features

Quick Account Switching:

The first button you see is a button that lists all your accounts. Using this button, you can switch instantly between any account you own. If you don’t have multiple blogs listed at Entrecard, this won’t affect you.

Your Entrecard Menu:

The second button gives you a report of how many credits you have, and how many drops you’ve done today. Click it, and it will drop down to give you the options of visiting your dashboard, messagebox, ad calendar, Statistics, Linked Blogs page, and the buy EC page.

Who to Browse:

You can select your Inbox, Favorites, or any Entrecard Category you like, and browse these sites with a single click of a button right from your browser. The Toolbar will automatically take you to these sites.

How to Browse:

Want to browse your Inbox by the Most Popular? Or, would you like to go through the least expensive sites in the Technology category? Or perhaps you’d like to go through the most advertised sites in the celebrity category, because if they’re the most advertised, the blog is probably great. Entrecard Toolbar makes it possible.

The Jump Buttons

Click on the single green arrow, and you will instantly be taken to an Entrecard site. Click the double green arrow, and your browser will open the next 10 Entrecard sites, as per your specifications in “How to Browse” and “What to Browse”.

One-Touch Favorites

The Entrecard Toolbar allows you to bookmark your favorites with a single click. While on any Entrecard site, a heart icon will appear in the browser. If its shaded gray, it means the person is not in your favorites.

And if it lights up bright red, that means they are in your favorites.

You can add someone to your favorites, or remove someone from your favorites, simply by clicking the button. This will toggle between them, and confirm your action by displaying the appropriate heart icon.

One-Click Advertising

That’s right, Entrecard’s famous one-click advertising is now coming at you from the browser. Any site you are on will display its price in the browser, and with just a single click, you can advertise on that site.

Interaction Menu

We also packed a menu into the toolbar that gives you all the options to interact with a site. That means that right from the toolbar, you can go to someone’s profile, write them a recommendation, Tip them (give them credits), or report them for a violation.

Not only will this help improve community interaction, it should also increase the efficiency with which we weed out low quality blogs.

Entrecard Menu

Finally, we have a dropdown “Entrecard” menu, which will take you to the Entrecard Blog, the community forum, the support forum, the Bugs forum, and the Help section of the website. It will also allow you to log out.

Can you feel the excitement??

Needless to say, we are incredibly excited about this toolbar. It ports the entire Entrecard experience right to your browser, and lets it take it with you. I’ve been testing it for the past few days, and I usually keep it set to my Inbox at Random. Whenever I have a spare moment I jump around to see who’s been dropping on me, and I can’t tell you how many new blogs I’m coming across and commenting on.

You may not realize it now, but this is probably the single greatest development that Entrecard has made since we launched. This will fundamentally change the entire Entrecard system and your Browser becomes the cornerstone for your Entrecard experience, and lets you take it with you wherever you go.

Everyday the web publishers, the Internet marketers, the bloggers and the beginners around the world meet in this forum to discuss and share information about web publishing and Internet marketing.

Because the forum has so many members and gains massive amount of traffic daily, you can use it to help you make money online. The forum created a special sub-forum called 'Buy, Sell or Trade'. This sub-forum allows you to post ads and offers about your products or services. There is no charge posting in this sub-forum and here's how you can utilize it to earn cash:

Offer Your Content Creation Services
Many webmasters need fresh and unique articles for publishing on their website and blog. The will go to this sub-forum and look for writers. By posting an ad stating that you are offering article writing services, some of those webmasters will reply to your thread or send a private message to you to place an order. You can charge $5 to $15 per article (400 - 500 words). However, if you just started out your writing business in DigitalPoint Forum, not many people will know about you. In order to get writing orders, you may need to set a low price, may be $5 - $7 per article.

Sell Templates
If you have designed a series of templates whether they are for website or blog, they can be offered for sales in DigitalPoint forum. Occasionally, there are people posting request for buying new template or template customization, you may contact them and offer your services.

Text Links and Blog Reviews Services
Text links and blog reviews have great demand as well. People who are interested to increase their inbound links will create new threads titled WTB Text Links or WTB Blog Posts. The 'WTB' simply means 'want to buy'. Click on each thread titled WTB and you should find some offers that are right for your website and blog. People often look for cheap text links and blog reviews, so it is advised that you set your price low or you will find it difficult to sell text links and blog posts in this forum.

Sell Digital Products
Do you own a lot of info products like e-books and software that come with private label rights or master resale right? A good idea is to bundle them into a package and sell it for a great low price like $10. Another idea is to create an e-book of your own and offer it to the members. As most members are webmasters so, your e-book has to be directly relevant to their interest. Like recently, a member posted an ad offering to sell his e-book titled 'How To Rank at #1 on Google for Any Search Term'. This ad catches tons of attention and I believe he has made a lot of sales.

Sell Websites and Domains
If your online business is about selling websites and domains, then DigitalPoint Forum may be a good place to increase your profit. Just post your URL there with traffic stat and revenue reports, those who are interested will place their bid.

Three Distinct Firefox Advantages

1. Security
Main point:
• Firefox is the safest way to use the Internet.

Supporting points:
• They start with safety – They engage security experts before they even start development so they can identify and address potential problems before a single line of code is written.
• They build Firefox to be safe – Keeping people safe online is a big reason why Firefox exists. By taking security very seriously, which is why they open their development process to allow security researchers to contribute at any point and on any topic. If a critical bug is discovered, they make it public imediatly so it can be fixed as soon as possible.
• They actively work to keep Firefox safe – Security doesn’t stop once the product has shipped. They are constantly monitoring threats and releasing new Firefox updates to stay ahead of the bad guys. Because Firefox is open source, they have an entire community of users around the world who help them make our web browsing safer.

Other Considerations:
• It’s important to give concrete examples of potential threats rather than just mentioning the abstract concept of “security”. People can easily relate to the ideas of identity theft, stolen credit cards, viruses, spyware and phishing, so explaining how Firefox helps prevent these things is key.
• Specific Firefox security features include anti-phishing alerts, password manager, protection from spyware and automatic security updates.
• The reality is that there are people out there who want to steal your personal information. That’s why we’re constantly refining Firefox with security updates every 6-8 weeks (and more often if a fix is needed to address a critical issue) to stay one step ahead.
• The main reason Firefox is safer is because of our open process, which allows us to identify, acknowledge and fix bugs more quickly than the competition.

2. Customization
Main point:
• When it comes to web browsing, they believe that one size doesn’t fit all.

Supporting points:
• Firefox has the most ways to customize your online experience specifically for the way you use the web.
Add-ons (small pieces of software that augment Firefox to meet your unique needs) enhance the browser so you can be more productive, have more fun and be more creative online. For example, you can use the 3000+ Firefox add-ons to:
- communicate and stay in touch
- find the best shopping deals
- listen to music
- protect your kids from inappropriate sites
- access the latest news and weather reports
- and much more…
• There are also many different themes that let you express yourself by decorating your browser in a variety of ways. You can find some Firefox Extensions here.

Other considerations:
• The key challenge is getting people to think about the browser in a new way…that it’s more than just a utility. The browser isn’t just a static window to the Internet, it can be an active part of the Internet itself.
• It’s important to demonstrate the specific benefits of add-ons…the message isn’t customization, it’s why customization makes people’s Internet experiences better.
• It’s also important to remember the audience here…for consumer messaging, they want to focus on add-ons that are easy to explain and have the broadest possible appeal. In other words, this means referencing ones like eBay, FotoFox, FoxyTunes, etc rather than the more developer-centric ones.
• Using a familiar, non-technical analogy to convey a fairly technical concept is a very effective way of communicating the role add-ons can play in your web experience. For example, using add-ons is like designing your living space at work or building with blocks.

3. 100% Organic Software
Main point:
• Firefox is good for you: it stands for openness, innovation and freedom on the Internet.

Supporting points:
• They are a public benefit, not-for-profit organization devoted to enriching people’s lives by preserving choice and innovation on the Internet (as opposed to being motivated by profits, shareholder value, usage of proprietary technology, etc.)
• They are a global, grassroots effort – Mozilla’s products are a result of a collaboration between employees, volunteers, universities, foundations and corporate partners. Firefox was created by an international movement of hundreds of thousands of people from wildly different backgrounds, all seeking to develop the world’s best browser.
• Open source means a better browser for the 120 million regular Firefox users. They open up their process to anyone and everyone in order to encourage the innovation and development of exciting new technologies that will keep pushing the web forward and making it a better place for all.

Other considerations:
• The “100% organic software” concept sums up a fairly complex situation using a metaphor people can easily recognize. Organic stands for something that’s better for you, something trusted, something of higher quality…all key ingredients of Mozilla and Firefox.
• They focus less on the technical aspects of open source, which is hard for people to understand, and concentrate more on the tangible user benefits – innovation, accessibility, freedom, a better web, etc – to reach more potential users.
• A great example of the power of open source is the fact that Mozilla only has roughly 100 employees, yet is able to compete with some of the biggest companies in the world because of our amazing international community.
• Although the 100% organic concept really applies to the Mozilla organization as a whole, for our consumer messaging we need to show how this process ties back in to Firefox…the organic nature of our software development has created a healthier, higher quality browser that makes the web better for you.

Some people play games. Some people work to make money. But others play games to make money! Does this sound too good to be true? It is not so easy like looks at first glance.
Most famous game in making money is World of Warcraft. People play to obtain an advanced character and sell the account to people without time or patience.
The problems come to the buyer if the seller acts in bad faith. For example the seller can take the money and reclaim the account after. So, in this case the buyer remains without money and no account. To avoid those kind of problem you need an account retailer for wow account. For example BuyMMOAccounts.com is a trustworthy company retailing World of Warcraft accounts. The benefits of use this company are so many. For example the most important is that your account will have a lifetime guarantee and protection from being reclaimed by a former owner or disabled by Blizzard Entertainment. Also, you will receive 24/7 customer support and service. It is good to know that all of the WoW Accounts listed on the web site BuyMMOAccounts.com has ownership of. When making a purchase you can be assured you are making payment to a legitimate company and not from a private seller. How much costs an account?... It depend of the account. I saw some accounts priced at $1299.0…

So you want to ditch your corporate cubicle and join the ranks of web workers? But you have a mortgage, maybe a dependent or two, and a taste for Venti Mochas from Starbucks? You can make money in the new economy, though it might not be as easy or cushy as keeping your old economy job.
I’m not talking about advertising or affiliate marketing or selling your junk on eBay. Those are so last millennium! I’m talking about the new new economy.
1. Offer your professional expertise in an online marketplace. These days, you can do more than just sell your old books via Amazon and your old Coach handbags via eBay—now you can sell your professional capabilities in a marketplace. No longer are you limited to looking for a permanent or contract job on Web 1.0 style job sites like Monster or CareerBuilder. The new breed of freelancing and project-oriented sites let companies needing help describe their projects. Then freelancers and small businesses offer bids or ideas or proposals from which those buyers can choose.
Elance covers everything from programming and writing to consulting and design, while RentACoder focuses on software, natch. If you’re a graphic designer, check out options like Design Outpost or LogoWorks–you don’t have to find the customers, they’ll come to you. Wannabe industry analysts might sign up for TechDirt’s Insight Community, a marketplace for ideas about technology marketing.
2. Sell photos on stock photography sites. If people regularly oooo and aaaaah over your Flickr pics, maybe you’re destined for photographic greatness or maybe just for a few extra dollars. It’s easier than ever to get your photos out in front of the public, which of course means a tremendous amount of competition, but also means it might be an convenient way for you to build up a secondary income stream. Where can you upload and market your photos? Try Fotolia, Dreamstime, Shutterstock, and Big Stock Photo.
3. Blog for pay. Despite the explosion of blogs, it’s hard to find good writers who can turn around a solidly-written post on an interesting topic quickly. GigaOM is always looking for bloggers with great content ideas and solid writing skills. How do you get noticed? Comment and link to blogging network sites. Write blog posts that are polished and not overly personal (although showing some personality is a plus).
4. Or start your own blog network. If you like the business side of things–selling advertising, hiring and managing employees, attracting investors–and have the stomach to go up against the likes of Weblogs, Inc., GigaOmniMedia, b5media, maybe you should make an entire business out of blogs. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you’ll get a lot of time to write yourself though.
5. Provide service and support for open source software. Just because the software is free doesn’t mean you can’t make money on it–just ask Red Hat, a well-known distributor of Linux that sports a market cap of more than four billion dollars. As a solo web worker, you might not want to jump in and compete with big companies offering Linux support, but how about offering support for web content management systems like WordPress or Drupal? After getting comfortable with your own installation, you can pretty easily jump into helping other people set them up and configure them.
6. Online life coaching. Who has time to go meet a personal coach at an office? And don’t the new generation of web workers need to be met by their coaches in the same way that they work: via email, IM, and VoIP? You could, of course, go through some life coaching certification program, but on the web, reputation is more important than credentials. I bet Tony Robbins isn’t certified as a life coach–and no one can argue with his success. For an example of someone building up their profile and business online as a coach, check out Pamela Slim of Ganas Consulting and the Escape from Cubicle Nation blog.
7. Virtually assist other web workers. Freelancers and small businesses desperately need help running their businesses, but they’re not about to hire a secretary to come sit in the family room and answer phone calls. As a virtual assistant, you might do anything from making travel reservations to handling expense reimbursements to paying bills to arranging for a dog sitter. And you do it all from your own home office, interacting with your clients online and by phone. You can make $20 and up an hour doing this sort of work, depending on your expertise.
8. Build services atop Amazon Web Services. Elastic computing on AWS is so cool… and so incredibly primitive right now. Did you know that you can’t even count on your virtual hard drive on EC2 to store your data permanently? That’s why people are making money right now by offering services on top of AWS. Make it easier for people to use Amazon’s scalability web infrastructure like Enomaly has with elasticlive, a scalable web hosting platform built on AWS.
9. Write reviews for pay or perks. If you blog for any length of time on a particular topic–parenting, mobile phones, or PCs, for example–you will likely be approached to do book or product reviews. You can get free stuff this way, but are you selling your soul? These are decisions you’ll have to make for yourself, because no one agrees upon what ethical rules apply to bloggers. Even less do people agree on services like PayPerPost that pay you to write reviews on your blog. Check out disclosure rules closely and see whether such a gig would meet your own personal standards or not.
10. Become a virtual gold farmer. A half million Chinese now earn income by acquiring and selling World of Warcraft gold to gamers in other countries. If you’re not a young person living in China, this probably isn’t a viable option for you. But what’s intriguing about it is the opportunity to make real money working in a virtual economy. People are making real-world money in Second Life too.
What other new ways do you know of to make money online?

Ways to Increase Link Density

Your Ad Here

In today's race to the top of the Google SERP's (Search Engine Result Pages), there are a number of factors that can help you achieve those coveted spots. While certain techniques may weigh better than others based on your industry and level of competition, there is no questioning the power of links. There are several methods, some common and some yet to be discovered, you can try out to help boost your link density and search rankings. While it would be near impossible to go into great detail on all methods (that would require a book) below I have outlined some of the more common techniques a web site owner can use to improve their site's popularity.
1. Reciprocal Links
Reciprocal links used to be a huge asset and played a significant role. Today, fewer sites are employing this technique as it is thought by many to have no role in the eyes of Google. This is simply not true. While the overall value of reciprocal links has declined over the years, they can and will still help your rankings if done correctly.
The key with reciprocal links is very simple - relevance. If you trade links only with highly relevant sites, you will get value from this. There are some things to watch out for: ensure that the links returning to you are spider friendly, that they reside on pages with as few links as possible, and are contextualized, meaning the content on the page, and preferably the site as a whole, is related to the content of your link and site.If you contact a relevant site to request a link exchange, keep the email personal to help grab the attention of the webmaster. Most link exchange emails are spammy automated submissions and are deleted without being read. Write the subject and entire email in such a way as to entice the user to read on, but keep it short. Offer to put their link up first, or even better yet, put it up before you contact them.
2. Purchasing Links
Google has been devaluing links, and in extreme cases, even penalizing sites for selling links, but there is no denying that this technique still works as many sites have skyrocketed to the top of the SERP's through the art of buying links. Many high profile sites such as major and local newspaper publications sell text links, yet nobody seems to be penalized for it as the publications rank well with high PR and the site they link to ranks well as a result. If you choose to take the gamble and purchase links back to your site, check out how they are linking back, how relevant they are, and try to get a sense of how their site is treated by Google. If you see other sites that appear to have purchased links from them, check their back links and see if the linking site appears (although it may not be displayed as Google displays very little of this information to the public these days). It is thought that if penalties will arise from the sale of links, that only the selling site will be penalized. Even if this is the case, Google's policy could change at any moment, so be warned that this could potentially come back to bite you.
3. Industry Contacts
Get in touch with your industry contacts and ask them if they will link to your site. You just don't know, and the worst they can say is no. This is usually best requested in person or by phone if it is someone you have a good relationship with. It may include manufacturers or retailers of your products, or various business partners and companies you have a relationship with.
4. Good Old Fashion Content
Believe it or not it works. If your site is loaded with original, valuable content, you will get some people linking to your site on their own. While you can not base your entire linking strategy around this concept, as it could take forever to get enough links, rest assured knowing that if you build it, some will link.
5. Build a Blog
Everyone and their dog seem to have a blog these days, and for good reason - they work. Blogs help you create a neverending stream of content, and if updated regularly, written well, and interesting, you will find people will link to it. Not only that, others may pick up your blog through your RSS feed - this can result in a jump in both links and site traffic. Be sure to utilize your Digg and other social media accounts within your blog to help gain a little extra attention.
6. Social Media
Promote your site and your blog using various social media tools. When someone "Diggs" or "Stumbles" your article you can not only get a link back to your site from the media platform, but you can also see traffic generated by this. The more people that flag your article, the more traffíc you can get, and the higher the value of the link.Creating company profile pages on platforms such as Squidoo, Facebook, MySpace, and even uploading photos and videos to Flickr and YouTube, can all count as back links to your site, so be sure to utilize these platforms to the fullest extent. Do not use these networks to spam them full of links, but rather to inform. Build unique relevant content and become a member of the community, and you will find your links will work much harder for you.
7. Article Syndication
When you write worthwhile articles, submit them to any known article aggregation websites in your industry or great general portals such as ezinearticles.com. When submitted to the right places you can drive traffic and increase your links. Again, be sure to include a link or two within your article that links back to your site when possible.
8. Press Releases
Press releases are still doing wonders. When your business hits a milestone, releases a new product, or has anything worthy of a press release, issue one through the services of PRWeb. You will get a link back to your site, and you may also get some targeted traffíc from those interested when reading your release.
If your press release is of significant news, you may also find bloggers and other writers referencing it and linking to it from their articles, providing even more value. Ensure that with any press release you include deep links back into your site. Links from within the bio are helpful, but those integrated into paragraphs of the release are worth much more.
9. Comments
I know I am going to get a hard time for this one, but if used wisely, it can help. When reading relevant blog posts, if you have something useful, constructive, and worthwhile to say, leave a comment and include your link if they provide the option. A comment like: "nice post" is inappropriate, but if you have something to add or contribute that others will find of interest then go for it. These links can add up, and they do add some value. Don't stuff your comment or name with keywords, keep it natural, and use your real name.
10. Forum Posts and Signatures
This is an area where you may be able to grab a few links, but it is also one you need to be careful about as it can backfire. I do NOT recommend going out and wildly posting in random forums and including your link. Where this area can be useful is if you establish yourself as a solid contributor to a particular forum directly related to your industry. Once you are established, and people know and trust your name, and understand that you are not there as a spammer, then you can consider adding your link to your signature file, and including the odd link in your forum posts when it is fully in context. This will allow you to get the odd relevant, inbound link. Check with the terms of the specific forum though before you start. Some do not allow links of any kind.
11. Testimonials
You see them on many sites offering products or services, and quite often they include a link back to the submitter's website. If you have used a product or service, don't be afraid to write a testimonial for the company. In many cases online businesses will post your testimonial along with a link. The testimonial helps that business instill confidence in their customers, and you get the valuable link back.
12. Directory Submissions
Yes, do still submít your site to the major directories. While DMOZ can be very difficult to get into, once you are there, it is like gold and will play a part in your top rankings. Yahoo directory has a high price $299US, but can also provide you with a valuable inbound link. Consider submitting to the major directories, as well as any industry specific directories. These links add up and will contribute to your site's well being.
13. Link Bait
We have heard this phrase thrown around for a while now, but the technique has worked long before the phrase "link bait" was coined. Why all the hype? Because it works.Take a look at your web site, your business and your industry. See if you can think of some way to attract people to link to your site. Perhaps sponsor a contest, add an elaborate and unique tool, write a controversial article, provide something useful for free - whatever you do, do it well, and promote the heck out of it, and people will naturally link to you.

A Few General Rules:
Before you actively seek out a link from a specific site do some investigating to ensure that the site is not spamming or using any black hat techniques. If they are, run.If the link you are seeking is merely for you to try and boost your link density, then also check out how they are linking to other third party sites. Does the site use the rel=nofollow attribute? Are the pages your link would reside on blocked by the search engines, or do they use the robots Meta nofollow? Are they using other techniques that would not allow a spider to follow them (such as JavaScript, Flash, or frames)? If so, you may want to move on.And a note on Google PR (Page Rank) - the PR you see on your toolbar is outdated. While it can give you some insight, just because it says 0, doesn't mean it is. Also what has a 0 or 1 today, could be a 4 or 5 tomorrow. Don't use PR as your sole means of deciding if you should obtain a link or not.

Summary
Using any or all of these linking methods will help you to improve your link density. There is power in diversification. Use variations on anchor text and descriptions, use inline text links within articles, and gain links in as many different venues as possible. By being diverse your site will stand the best chance of being around well into the future.Today, blogs are huge and can be a strong asset, but what would happen if tomorrow Google decided to ban blogs? Highly unlikely, but it could happen, and if it did, would your site survive? By being diverse, your site has the best chance to survive change.

"While Google has focused their technology on building a better map, we wanted to do more and replicate the experience of actually being somewhere," - Everyscape chief executive Jim Schoonmaker told ABC News.
Everyscape employs independent contractors to operate specialized equipment. "Destination ambassadors" are assigned regions and are paid per mile to map. By getting locals involved, Schoonmaker hopes to "enable the world to build the world."
On top of earning $10 for every street mile, destination ambassadors receive a commission whenever they convince a business to have its interiors photographed.
Joe Ryan, owner of the Press Box Sports Bar in Manhattan, was quickly sold on the idea when he was approached with an offer to lease his locale on the interactive map.
"It's absolutely worth the price of the lease," Ryan said. "We have a very nice private party room upstairs and whenever people call to see if they can have a party there, it was very hard for me to describe it. Now I just tell them to go to the site, and they can take a look around. It's a big help."
Everyscape has secured $7 million in investment from venture capital firms. Some experts say to cut into Google's market, the company would need to extend its mapping capabilities abroad to popular destinations like Sydney and London, where the legality of such technology has been challenged.

In an effort to clean up its traffic exchange network, Entrecard will start deleting all blogs with Quick Drop or Power Drop pages. These pages are nothing more than a blank page with an Entrecard widget on it, as you see in the image belowThe purpose of the quick drop page is to allow Entrecard users to quickly build up credits and increase ad price by dropping their cards on a bunch of fast loading pages. A page loads pretty quick if it has nothing on it but a widget. Entrecard members would go from one quick drop page to the next and power drop their card.

Starting July 1st, Entrecard will be going through a list of quick drop pages and accounts will be permanently closed if the quick drop pages are still active. Any built up credits will be permanently lost. Not only will Entrecard be banning blogs with quick drop pages, they will be issuing stiff credit penalties on any members dropping their cards on a quick drop page.

This is first time I’ve heard of the quick drop page. I wonder how long this has been going on and how long Entrecard had knew about it? At any rate, it’s nice to see Entrecard taking steps to kill off the practice.

101 Ways To Monetize Your Blog :

Merchandising

  1. CafePress.com: This perennial favorite makes it easy for you to put your blog's logo on shirts, bags, coasters and other items.
  2. Self-Published Books: If your readers like your content, they may want to have something they can own offline or even share with friends. Create a book with self-publishing services like Lulu, and you'll earn profits even without a huge book deal.
  3. Printfection.com: Design and sell custom products with Printfection.com.
  4. Hard-Copy Content: Create a CD-ROM "book" with cleanly organized content that can be accessed offline. You can take things a step further and sell subscriptions for future updates to the system.
  5. GoodStorm: Like CafePress.com and Printfection.com, GoodStorm is a nice way to create and sell your own merchandising products.

Paid Content

Paid content is a good monetization method for bloggers that regularly offer useful information — especially if this information helps others make money. As with all monetization methods, it's all in the approach. Don't create misleading previews of content that requires a membership to read in full. Rather, devote special sections of premium content to readers who are willing to pay for the information.

  1. E-Books: Whether it's a compilation of your best tips or a new idea altogether, an e-book is a good, reader-friendly way to package content.
  2. White Papers: Like e-books, white papers are a smaller, more technical version of your content.
  3. Phone Calls: Sell one-on-one phone calls for advice and other consulting through Ether.
  4. Miniguides: If you've just run a particularly helpful series, package it up into a miniguide.
  5. Tutorials: Gather your knowledge and compile it into a tutorial that relies upon your expert advice.
  6. Members-Only Sections: Whether you're providing access to published items or just ad-free content, make sure you're delivering a product that your readers are willing to pay for.
  7. TextMarks Inc.: Charge readers to get text-message alerts about your content through TextMarks.
  8. X-Events: Project physical events online and create revenue by charging admission, attracting sponsors and selling subscriptions to future events.
  9. Podcasts: Podcasts may be a novelty to your readers, and many of them are probably willing to pay to be able to hear your entries on the go.
  10. Videos: Like podcasts, videos are value-added extras that readers may be willing to pay for.

Begging

It never hurts to be straightforward about earning money from your blog. Ask your readers for donations — in a polite way, of course — and the ones that truly value your work will likely be more than willing to help support your ongoing success.

  1. PayPal: PayPal's system allows you to place a donation button on your blog.
  2. Amazon Honor System: Like PayPal, the Amazon Honor System allows you to accept online donations.
  3. Mailed Checks: Of course, good old U.S. mail works just as well. Provide readers with a P.O. box that they can mail donations to.
  4. Buy me a beer/coffee: Asking for donations in the form of a beer, coffee or other special item allows readers to reward you with something tangible.
  5. Amazon Wish List: Although it's not cash, asking readers to buy you items from your Amazon Wish List will save you from having to buy things yourself. Again, they'll feel more rewarded knowing they've given you something tangible.

Opportunities

Becoming a successful blogger means becoming an expert in your field. You can use this status to earn money through opportunities, while increasing the value you provide to your readers.

  1. Writing Gigs: By showcasing your writing talents on your blog, you've provided a living resume to any blog network or news site that might be interested in hiring you.

  9. Consulting: If you've found success as a blogger, you probably have a lot of knowledge to share about mastering both the Internet and your field. Freelance as a consultant and get paid for sharing what you know.
  10. Speaking: Your blog can get your noticed by industry leaders and can land you speaking engagements at conferences and meetings.
  11. Book: A number of popular bloggers have landed lucrative book deals.
  12. Interviews: Share your knowledge on a new medium and go on radio or TV interviews.

Offline

The benefits, monetary and otherwise, of writing a blog extend well beyond the Internet, particularly if you operate an offline business. Take advantage of these benefits using the following methods.

  1. Market Your Services: Your blog is a great forum for marketing your business. Post about current promotions, new interests and other business-building information.
  2. Create a Voice Behind Your Business: A blog is a great way to grow your business through personal dialogue. By presenting yourself as a friendly authority, your business becomes more approachable.
  3. Deepen Customer Relationships: Beyond providing a friendly voice, a blog can help you connect with customers. Link to their blogs, write about their interests and give them special attention in your writing.

Ads

Ads are generally the bread and butter of bloggers. However, they're also the most likely to irritate readers. To keep a happy balance, focus on relevance and make sure that you're not overloading your blog with too many ads. It should go without saying that you should absolutely not use every single one of these ad programs, either. Rather, pick a handful and rotate them until you find what that works the best for your blog.

RSS Ads

A more specialized advertising method, RSS ads give bloggers a way to monetize feeds. Most readers generally react to RSS ads the same way they do with regular ones, so if you stay relevant and limited, it should work out just fine.

Self-advertising is a method that trumps all others in terms of reader friendliness. By selling your own ads, you'll get complete control and will be able to determine the method of ad serving that your readers respond to the best.

  1. Individual Advertisers: Your advertisers should be ones that your readers will genuinely be interested in. Solicit ads from major, respected players in your industry for the best results.
  2. Actively Sell Individual Advertising: To attract advertisers, let it be known that you're looking for them. Put links on your site, contact potential advertisers directly and post on industry message boards.

Affiliate Programs

Most bloggers end up dropping product names at one point or another. Whether it's software, books or trinkets, you're probably linking to them for free. Affiliate programs offer a way to profit from your name-dropping, often without changing much more than the URLs you point to. Keep affiliate programs reader-friendly by sharing only products that are truly relevant to your discussion and not going overboard with the quantity.

That way, you can stick to products and services that are relevant to your readers and that you truly support.
